Luxury hospitality welcomes a new address in the Hawaiian archipelago with the official opening of Hale Hōkūala Kauaʻi, Curio Collection by Hilton, a 210-room lifestyle resort redefining the island experience on Kauaʻi. Overlooking the majestic Nāwiliwili Bay and in close proximity to the famous Kalapakī Beach, this property marks the very first foray of the Curio Collection by Hilton brand into Hawaii. This strategic launch consolidates the global footprint of the American hotel group Hilton, which already manages a portfolio of nearly thirty prestige properties across the archipelago’s various islands.

A haven shaped by Kauaʻi’s natural beauty

Nestled at the heart of the prestigious Hōkūala residential community, the estate unfolds as a true sanctuary open to the elements. The resort’s name, which literally translates to “House of the Rising Star” in Hawaiian, reflects a commitment to deep local roots. Architects from the renowned firms Hart Howerton and AHL, collaborating with interior designers from studio Looney & Associates, envisioned an organic architecture that gently weaves among the property’s centuries-old banyans and monkeypod trees.

Exceptional design inspired by nature

Every room and suite features floor-to-ceiling glass windows and private lānais, traditional Hawaiian balconies designed to blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors. The interior colour palette draws direct inspiration from the island of Kauaʻi’s ecosystem: deep Pacific Ocean blues alongside dense tropical valley greens and ochre coastal tones. Carefully curated works of art celebrate indigenous cultural heritage and illustrate the sacred relationship connecting the land, the ocean and the people.

A unique fusion menu with Portuguese influences

An unprecedented Portuguese-Hawaiian culinary signature

The culinary offering at Hale Hōkūala Kauaʻi, led by the creative direction of Executive Chef Hans Lentz and Food and Beverage Director Romina Migliorini, stands out as one of the resort’s key highlights. The hotel’s flagship restaurant, Figueira, majestically overlooks the 18th hole of the adjoining golf course. It introduces the island’s first Portuguese-Hawaiian dining concept, celebrating the historical impact of Portuguese immigration on local food culture through slow-cooking techniques and ultra-fresh island ingredients.

At Figueira, guests can savour signature dishes such as French toast with pineapple and Kuleana rum caramel, local Kauaʻi prawns, a traditional fish stew, or the famous malasadas. Poolside, The Wiliwili offers a relaxed alternative. Its menu showcases notable poké bowls, traditional Hawaiian plate lunches and artisanal shave ice, all crafted using harvests from the estate’s own farm.

Awakening connections and local culture

An authentic immersion into Kauaʻi culture

Beyond its high-end facilities, the resort bases its identity on its exclusive cultural heritage programme named E Ala Ka Pilina, translated as “Awakening Connection”. This immersion experience was developed hand in hand with local historians, artisans, educators and non-profit organisations. The aim is to offer discerning travellers a genuine understanding of the customs and traditions that form the beating heart of Kauaʻi island.

For its debut, the resort is partnering with the prestigious Kauaʻi Museum to host private exhibitions and thematic talk series on the property. Upcoming programmes will explore core elements of Hawaiian culture, such as the traditional art of lei making, ancestral aquaculture, responsible land stewardship and hula dancing.

A prime starting point for sporting adventures

The hotel’s central location, close to Līhuʻe Airport, makes it an ideal base for exploring the island, from the famous Hanalei Bay to the dramatic Waimea Canyon. On site, sports enthusiasts enjoy privileged access to the 18-hole championship golf course, Ocean Course at Hōkūala, designed by Jack Nicklaus. The resort also features state-of-the-art tennis and pickleball courts, as well as a network of hiking trails spanning over eight kilometres, perfect for exploring on foot or with the complimentary bicycles provided to guests.
