Coperni: founders cease operations, the brand’s fate remains open

At a glance

  • What? On 4 November 2026, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant announced on Instagram that Coperni SAS, the brand’s French company, is ceasing operations.
  • Legal status: France’s official gazette Bodacc lists receivership proceedings opened on 11 June 2026. As of 5 November it lists no liquidation.
  • The licence: the founders accuse Tomorrow of ending it unilaterally, while Progetto 11 reportedly spoke of a dispute already under way. No public document settles the matter.
  • The trademark: in the United States, COPERNI is registered to Coperni UK Limited, not to Coperni SAS.
  • Ownership: on the latest filings, Coperni UK was 51% held by the Tomorrow group, taken over by Progetto 11 in March, and 49% by the two founders.

Coperni is shutting its French company, but not necessarily its name. The announced shutdown concerns Coperni SAS, while the US trademark belongs to a separate British company that also owned Coperni SAS as of 30 April 2024. Founded in 2013, the Paris label leaves two questions open: what happens to the company, and what happens to the name.

“Ceasing the operations of Coperni SAS”

“Over the past few months, we have tried everything to preserve Coperni,” the two designers write on Instagram, before concluding: “It is with deep sadness that we must therefore cease the operations of Coperni SAS.” They point to their conflict with Tomorrow, the brand’s shareholder and distributor.

According to several sources, the message says nothing about stock, intellectual property or staff. France’s Sirene business register placed Coperni SAS in the 20 to 49 employee bracket in 2024. On 5 November, the online store at coperni.com was still live and showed no closure notice.

Receivership on record, no dated liquidation

The notice published in the Bodacc on 28 June 2026 remains the only insolvency filing visible for this company. It refers to a judgment of 11 June 2026 opening receivership proceedings (redressement judiciaire), with the date of insolvency set at 29 May 2026, at the registry of the Paris economic activities court.

The word liquidation has been circulating since 4 November, with no date or judgment cited. As of 5 November, neither the Bodacc nor the Sirene register records it: Coperni SAS is still listed there as active. That does not prove no judgment has been handed down, as the June notice appeared seventeen days after the decision.

The licence: three accounts, no decisive document

According to the founders, Tomorrow stopped paying the sums due, then unilaterally terminated the licence. Another account places the termination against a backdrop of unpaid debts, without saying who owed what. Progetto 11, for its part, reportedly said it inherited a business already in dispute over ownership and governance, short of funding, with founders seeking to regain control. Those remarks are known only indirectly.

Public filings describe the mechanism, not the break. Coperni UK’s accounts to 30 April 2024 state that its only trade is collecting licence fee income on sales of Coperni goods across the Tomorrow group, amounting to 2.26 million pounds for the year. They also show 2.84 million pounds owed by its subsidiaries, Coperni SAS being the only one named. These figures date from April 2024 and do not show who failed to meet their obligations.

Tomorrow Mid-Co, sold for €419,999

Tomorrow London Holdings, Tomorrow Mid-Co and Tomorrow London went into administration on 20 March 2026 before the English courts. According to the administrators’ report, falling demand had created a funding need of at least 5 million pounds.

Immediately after their appointment, the administrators sold Tomorrow Mid-Co to Progetto 11, the holding company of The Level Group, for 419,999 euros. Their note on the sale states that this was the only offer covering all the operating companies, brand companies included, and that it could proceed without the agreement of licence partners.

Who owns the Coperni name?

The US trademark register names Coperni UK Limited as owner of COPERNI, registered on 9 March 2021 for fashion, leather goods, jewellery, perfumes and online retail. Yet the terms of sale on coperni.com, dated 25 February 2026, describe the site’s trademarks as the exclusive property of Coperni SAS. The French, EU and British registers could not be consulted, so ownership of the name in Europe remains to be confirmed.

The British company is not simply a Tomorrow subsidiary. A 2021 statement, refiled in London in June 2025, gives 102 ordinary shares to Tomorrow Mid-Co and 49 to each founder, and the group accounts to 30 April 2024 confirm a 51% stake. Coperni UK is active, with overdue accounts. Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant remain directors, alongside three Milan-based directors appointed on 24 March 2026. No sale or relaunch of the name has been announced.

Two open cases, in Paris and in London

According to several sources, the observation period runs until 11 December 2026, and three takeover offers were reported in October: from a Hong Kong fund and two private investors. Their outcome is not known. The founders are also said to have tried to buy back the brand, without success. The Paris court will have to decide what becomes of the company, but the name is also at stake in London.
