In brief

  • The Dilbar is worth between 600 and 735 million dollars according to the US Treasury, which valued it on 3 March 2022, approximately 536 to 657 million euros at the exchange rate of 13 October 2026.
  • This is the only official value for a yacht of this size, earning it first place in our ranking of the most expensive yachts in the world.
  • Delivered by Lürssen in 2016, it measures 156 metres and has a gross tonnage of 15,917 GT: the shipyard presents it as the largest motor yacht in the world by tonnage.
  • Its operation costs approximately 60 million dollars per year, according to the same US Treasury document.
  • Detained in Hamburg since 2022, it obtained a decision from an administrative court in Frankfurt on 11 June 2026 in favour of Lürssen, but it remains targeted by US sanctions.

The Dilbar is the only giant superyacht for which a state has publicly quantified the value. This US Treasury document makes it the reference when looking for the most expensive yacht in the world. Here is where this price comes from, what it covers and the status of the vessel in October 2026.

How much does the yacht Dilbar cost?

On 3 March 2022, when announcing sanctions against businessman Alisher Usmanov, the US Treasury identified the Dilbar as blocked property and wrote that its value was estimated between 600 and 735 million dollars. This is an authoritative estimate, not a sale price: the Lürssen shipyard never publishes the price of its yachts, and the Dilbar has never been resold. At the European Central Bank reference rate of 13 October 2026 (1 euro for 1.1188 dollars), the range corresponds to approximately 536 to 657 million euros.

The same press release estimated the vessel’s operating cost at 60 million dollars per year, or approximately 54 million euros. It also indicated that the billionaire’s private Airbus A340 would have cost between 350 and 500 million dollars, an order of magnitude to compare with our ranking of the most expensive private jets in the world.

A 180 cubic metre pool

Lürssen describes the Dilbar as one of the most complex yachts ever built, both in its dimensions and its technology. Its most famous feature is its indoor swimming pool: 25 metres long and 180 cubic metres of water, the largest ever installed on a yacht according to the shipyard. The classic profile, with an ivory hull and bronze touches, is signed by Espen Øino International; the interiors, made of rare materials, are the work of Winch Design. Its name, which means “beloved” in Persian, is that of Alisher Usmanov’s mother, the US Treasury notes.

Usmanov, the trust and sanctions

The Dilbar was undergoing maintenance at the Lürssen shipyard in Hamburg at the start of the war in Ukraine, and it has remained detained there since, according to the latest available information. Washington has linked it to Alisher Usmanov, who disputes ownership: his representatives indicate that the yacht belongs to an irrevocable trust, The Sister Trust, managed by an independent trustee. In April 2022, the European Union placed the billionaire’s sister, Gulbakhor Ismailova, on its sanctions list, designating her as the beneficiary of the trust.

On 11 June 2026, according to the press release from Alisher Usmanov’s representatives, the Administrative Court of Frankfurt am Main ruled in favour of Lürssen against the German Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control, judging that the vessel did not have to be treated as a frozen resource under European sanctions. This decision is not final to our knowledge, and the Dilbar remains listed as blocked property on the US Treasury list.

Ahead of the Azzam and the Eclipse

In our ranking of the most expensive yachts in the world, the Dilbar comes out on top because its value is the only one based on an official document. The Scheherazade (140 metres), frozen in Italy in 2022, is estimated at around 700 million dollars, without confirmation. The Azzam, longer at 180 metres but less voluminous (13,136 GT), is estimated at around 600 million dollars by the industry. Roman Abramovich’s Eclipse (162.5 metres) cost approximately 340 million euros according to 2009 estimates. The Sailing Yacht A was valued at 530 million euros by the Guardia di Finanza.

What is the Dilbar worth today?

No transactions have taken place since 2022, and the US Treasury evaluation remains the only public reference. A yacht detained for four years does not necessarily lose its value, but it continues to incur costs: at a rate of 60 million dollars per year, four years of operation represent the equivalent of a third of its high-end value. As long as US sanctions apply, any transaction in dollars or involving US parties remains prohibited, which closes the door to a conventional sale.
