On 5 November 2026 in Sydney, Chanel presented its Cruise 2026/27 collection, unveiled in Biarritz on 28 April. It is the house’s first show in Australia, with a collection already known. The interest therefore lies less in new silhouettes than in the choice of country, the venue and a pattern Chanel has repeated since 2022.

Why is Chanel showing in Australia?

The answer came with the announcement, in June 2026. Bruno Pavlovsky, Chanel’s president of fashion, said at the time, in remarks relayed by the French-Australian chamber of commerce CCI France Australie: “We feel that it’s time now for Chanel to accelerate our development in Australia.”

The boutique came before the show. Also according to CCI France Australie, a large boutique opened in Sydney in 2025, on Market Street. Designed by Peter Marino, it is home to the house’s first watches and fine jewellery space in the country. The show thus extends to the runway a presence already strengthened in store.

28 April in Biarritz, 5 November in Sydney

Sydney did not get a new collection. Chanel speaks of a “stopover”: the Australian presentation is the second for Cruise 2026/27, after the one in Biarritz on 28 April. The starting point was meaningful: it was in Biarritz that Gabrielle Chanel established her first couture house, in 1915.

The house describes a collection designed for movement, blurring the boundaries between city and ocean, indoors and outdoors.

Matthieu Blazy’s first Cruise

The word “first” calls for precision here. Cruise 2026/27 is Matthieu Blazy’s first for Chanel, not his first collection for the house: he has already designed others, including spring-summer 2026, shown at the Grand Palais. What comes next is known: his Cruise 2027/28 will be presented in Deauville.

Five stopovers since Cruise 2022/23

Sydney fits a habit of the house: a Cruise collection unveiled in a first location, then shown again in another city.

  • 2022/23: Monte-Carlo, then Miami
  • 2023/24: Los Angeles, then Shenzhen
  • 2024/25: Marseille, then Hong Kong
  • 2025/26: Villa d’Este, on Lake Como, then Raffles Singapore
  • 2026/27: Biarritz, then Sydney

All five repeat shows took place outside Europe. The format predates Matthieu Blazy, who keeps it for his first Cruise. Sydney adds a country where the house had never shown before.

The Cutaway, a new venue carved from sandstone

According to several reports, the show was held at The Cutaway, and its set evoked the memory of 31 rue Cambon across five rooms. According to Barangaroo, this cultural and events venue is carved from sandstone beneath the eastern part of Barangaroo Reserve, on Gadigal land. It holds around 2,000 people and offers 5,000 m² of event space.

The address is very recent: Infrastructure NSW announced its completion in April 2026. The site, designed by fjcstudio with Shannon Foster and the artist Jake Nash, was handed over to Placemaking NSW, with bookings announced from 1 August 2026. Fashion shows are among the uses cited by the New South Wales authorities.

The house’s images show a large sandstone wall, mirrors, pale carpet and beige walls, with gilded chairs and large bouquets. The sandstone contrasts with the soft beige of the set. This wall matches the official description of The Cutaway.

Boutique arrival: still no date

In the same images, the wardrobe moves from tweed to the red double C, from red checks to black and white stripes, with a small fringed bag and a quilted bag. Chanel announces the collection’s arrival in boutiques, without publishing a date.
