In brief

- The RIQUE brand made a name for itself during New York Fashion Week in 2025 through the Flying Solo platform.
- The brand offers an aesthetic inspired by the culture of the American South, blending luxury streetwear and chromatic minimalism.
The brand RIQUE, the luxury streetwear label founded by designer Eriq Bruce, will present its very first independent runway show in Houston on 25 July 2026. Entitled ‘From RIQUE, With Love’, this event marks a major turning point for the South Carolina-born designer, who wishes to celebrate the stylistic heritage of Black women from the American South.
An intimate tribute at the heart of creation
For Eriq Bruce, fashion transcends the simple materiality of clothing. Before seeing his sketches materialise or participating in collective Fashion Week presentations, creation was an intimate language shared with his mother. Her passing in March 2020 profoundly reshaped the designer’s creative trajectory, breathing a memorial dimension into all of his work.
A tribute collection steeped in emotion
This new womenswear ready-to-wear collection, which has been in development for nearly five years, unfolds like an open letter to the woman who shaped his vision of elegance. Bruce injects a rare sensitivity into it, transforming grief into a vibrant and structured tribute where each piece reflects a precise intention.
RIQUE, luxury streetwear from the South
Pronounced ‘reek’, the brand has its roots in the designer’s childhood in Dillon, South Carolina. Born in 1996, the young man grew up at the crossroads of 1990s urban culture and the everyday elegance characteristic of the American South, major influences that define his wardrobe today. The RIQUE brand offers luxury streetwear characterised by minimalist cuts, clean lines, and a colour palette strictly focused on black and white.
Eriq Bruce’s unique background is also reflected in the rigour of his creations: with experience in the military and advanced university degrees obtained in South Carolina, he applies an exacting discipline to the construction of his fashion house.
Houston as a new creative epicentre
Although the brand had already made a name for itself in New York in 2025 thanks to the collective, the designer chose to organise his first independent show in Houston. Arriving in the Texan metropolis in 2019 to work on the re-election campaign of former mayor Sylvester Turner, he discovered a cultural vitality and creative energy there that he describes as a true goldmine.
Houston, a new hub for fashion design
Bruce perceives Houston as a rapidly growing creative hub, ready to establish itself alongside traditional African-American fashion capitals. He aspires to write RIQUE into the city’s stylistic history by demonstrating that luxury and excellence can thrive there independently.
The RIQUE woman and the codes of influence
The feminine silhouette shaped by the designer rejects ostentation and the desperate quest for visibility. Confident, sensual, and mysterious, the RIQUE woman commands attention by her presence alone, a vision recently embodied by artist Yung Miami, who wore one of the brand’s looks on social media. This demanding aesthetic moves away from fleeting trends to focus on allure and strength of character.
This philosophy pays tribute to the quiet strength of Black women who carry their communities with sovereign dignity. As the designer so rightly points out, the RIQUE muse is not a mere influencer, but rather the woman influencers dream of rubbing shoulders with on a daily basis.
Behind the scenes with an exacting independent designer
The daily challenge of an independent designer
Behind the spotlights and the sophistication of the runway shows lies the harsh reality of fashion entrepreneurship. Eriq Bruce runs his brand head-on while maintaining a full-time job, single-handedly taking on the roles of pattern maker, communicator, manager, and creative director. This status as an independent designer involves a monumental amount of invisible decisions to finance and structure his vision of luxury.
For the designer, true luxury does not lie in the accumulation of logos or the display of exorbitant prices, but in the quality of the cut, the intention of the creative gesture, and the originality of the message. Beyond the clothes, the upcoming show on 25 July aims above all to evoke a lasting emotion and inspire a new generation of designers.
