Six-figure nights
Empathy Suite, the work of art by Damien Hirst (Las Vegas)
At the Palms Casino Resort, the Empathy Suite is priced at $100,000 a night, with a two-night minimum, and was entirely designed by British artist Damien Hirst. Sharks in formaldehyde, stone butterflies inlaid in marble, a thirteen-seat bar and a cantilevered pool suspended over the Strip.
Royal Mansion, Beyoncé’s duplex (Dubai)
At Atlantis The Royal, the Royal Mansion spans 1,100 square metres over two floors, starting at around $100,000 a night. A terrace with a private pool, 360-degree views of the Palm, a giant screen and gold accessories: the suite was popularised by Beyoncé’s stay during the hotel’s grand opening.
Royal Penthouse Suite, the Geneva fortress
Long designated the most expensive room in the world, the Royal Penthouse Suite at Hotel President Wilson occupies the entire top floor: twelve bedrooms, bulletproof windows, a private lift, a Steinway piano and views of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. Expect to pay around $80,000 a night.
Grand Penthouse, the New York giant (The Mark)
Presented as the largest and most expensive suite in North America, the Grand Penthouse at The Mark Hotel, at $75,000 a night, boasts over 900 square metres, five bedrooms, a living room that can be transformed into a ballroom and the city’s largest private terrace, with on-demand dining designed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten.
Royal Villa, the Greek waterfront palace (Lagonissi)
Near Athens, the Royal Villa at Grand Resort Lagonissi, at around $50,000 a night, offers two pools, a personal butler, chef and pianist, as well as direct access to the beach. It is one of the most expensive resort suites in Europe.
Also in New York, the Ty Warner Penthouse at the Four Seasons, perched on the fifty-second floor and the result of seven years of work, completes this club with its walls inlaid with mother-of-pearl, gold and platinum, and its private butler and chauffeur.
The real secret: almost no one pays this price
Because here is the behind-the-scenes reality: these dizzying rates are primarily prestige tools. Several of these suites are offered to casino high rollers, or reserved “on request” for a hand-picked clientele. The advertised price serves mainly to get people talking about the hotel. The hundred-thousand-dollar night is, above all, a formidable PR exercise.
