Necker Island is undoubtedly the most famous private island in the world. Owned by Richard Branson, it can be rented in its entirety all year round and, on specific dates only, room by room. Here are the official prices, what they include, and what you need to know before booking.

How much does a stay on Necker Island cost?

Virgin Limited Edition, the hotel collection of the Virgin group, publishes an annual rate card for ‘individual stays’. The 2026 edition sets rooms in the Great House and Balinese houses at $6,000 per night, per room for two people. Balinese suites rise to $7,800, and the Master Suite to $9,400. A family of two adults and two children under 12 pays $9,050 for connecting rooms.

These rates are all-inclusive: meals, alcoholic beverages, boat transfers from Beef Island or Virgin Gorda airport, and water sports. The final bill incurs a 2.5% service charge and a 3% local hotel tax, plus an optional 1% donation to the Unite BVI charity. An additional child aged between 6 and 11 costs $1,075 per night, and $2,350 for those aged 12 and over.

Richard Branson’s island

Virgin Limited Edition presents the island as the home of Sir Richard Branson, who acquired it in the late 1970s. The Great House, perched on the highest point, overlooks the Caribbean: a vast Balinese-style pavilion, eleven rooms, an infinity pool, and a terrace where dinners are served. Surrounding it, about ten Balinese houses are dotted down to the beaches, between coral reefs and white sand.

The island is also home to free-roaming wildlife, from lemurs to giant tortoises and flamingoes. For leisure: two tennis courts, kitesurfing, sailing, diving, and paddleboarding. The terms and conditions enforce a strict rule of discretion: it is forbidden to photograph or publish images of other guests, staff, or the Branson family without written consent.

Other private islands for rent

In our selection of private islands available to rent, Necker sits at the top end of the spectrum. Musha Cay, David Copperfield’s archipelago in the Bahamas, rents from around $57,000 per night, with a five-night minimum stay. Thanda Island, in Tanzania, starts at around $33,000 per night. At the top of the scale, Nukutepipi, Guy Laliberté’s atoll in French Polynesia, exceeds €900,000 per week.

The price today

To hire the entire island, the only route is a direct enquiry to Virgin Limited Edition: the rate depends on the dates, the number of guests, and possible extensions, such as the neighbouring villas of the Branson Beach Estate on Moskito Island. The figures currently circulating, from $118,500 to $155,000 per night for the entire island, are not published by Virgin and remain estimates. Members of the Virgin Atlantic loyalty programme can also book a stay using points. For 2027, the first individual stay dates announced are 9 to 17 January and 25 to 30 March.
