Financial City Chengdu MGallery has officially opened its doors in the heart of Chengdu’s financial district, marking the inauguration of the brand’s third hotel in the Sichuan capital and the tenth establishment in the collection in Greater China. Located at the crossroads of the metropolis’s economic activities and luxury boutiques, this address strengthens Accor’s strategic footprint in Western China. This booming sector, characterised by its commercial dynamism and ultra-modern infrastructure, represents the province’s new centre of gravity.

The metropolis of Chengdu is establishing itself today as a must-visit destination for business and leisure travellers in China. Nicknamed the city of brocades, it combines rapid economic growth with legendary easy living, nurtured by its urban parks and famous teahouses. The addition of this high-end hotel establishment meets the growing demand for prestigious accommodation capable of offering deep cultural immersion alongside international-level services.

The hotel’s location in the southern business district provides remarkable accessibility to the region’s main decision-making centres. By becoming a gathering point for the local and international business community, the establishment does not merely offer accommodation; it creates a true hub for exchanges within one of Western China’s most dynamic financial districts, thereby consolidating Chengdu’s reputation as a major magnet for business and culture.

A poetic homage to the Tang dynasty

The Tang dynasty, recognised as the golden age of poetry and arts in China, serves as the narrative foundation for the hotel’s visual identity. During this period of cultural splendour, the city of Chengdu welcomed the empire’s greatest writers and thinkers, charmed by its verdant landscapes and mild climate. Drawing direct inspiration from Zhang Ji’s famous poem, the architectural project seeks to recreate the bucolic atmosphere of an imperial lychee orchard sheltered from the noise of the city, offering a timeless haven of peace for contemporary travellers.

The architectural and interior design, entrusted to the Australian firm Stack Studio, draws on the region’s literary heritage. The hotel’s aesthetic translates the poem ‘Song of Chengdu’ written by Zhang Ji during the Tang dynasty, featuring the theme of a preserved lychee orchard in the city centre. At the entrance to the building, a century-old lychee tree symbolises the botanical and cultural roots of the project, immediately offering visitors a striking visual and sensory experience upon arrival.

The 155 rooms and suites incorporate soft tones reminiscent of the mists of the Jinjiang River and the surrounding Sichuan landscape. Designed in a residential spirit, the living spaces cater equally to business guests and travellers seeking an urban retreat. Clean lines of contemporary furniture combine with delicate textures and local artworks that evoke traditional craftsmanship, creating an atmosphere of understated comfort and timeless sophistication.

Each room has been designed to maximise natural light while guaranteeing optimal acoustic insulation from the bustle of the business district. The choice of premium bedding and ergonomic layouts reflects meticulous attention to the physical and psychological well-being of guests, making every room a protective, rejuvenating cocoon in the midst of the urban landscape.

Local gastronomy and panoramic well-being

The blend of physical well-being and culinary pleasures forms a cornerstone of the experience offered by the hotel. By combining areas dedicated to active fitness with spaces for gastronomic conviviality, the establishment offers a complete sensory journey. This holistic approach meets the expectations of a modern clientele who no longer separate the quality of a business trip from the opportunity to maintain a healthy and culturally enriching lifestyle balance.

A gastronomic and sensory experience

The culinary offering is organised around several distinct living spaces. Lychee Restaurant combines Sichuan culinary specialities with international cuisine, while Lychee Bar welcomes guests for afternoon tea and evening mixology. On the seventh floor, the planted Sky Garden rooftop terrace offers an open-air retreat overlooking the financial district. This elevated green haven allows guests to escape the hustle and bustle of the avenues while admiring Chengdu’s urban skyline.

For meetings and banquets, the establishment boasts 480 square metres of flexible space. The fitness centre, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, opens directly onto an outdoor terrace to enhance natural light. The sports facilities feature state-of-the-art equipment for personalised workouts set against a striking panorama of surrounding skyscrapers, enhancing the positive energy of the venue.

Lychee Restaurant makes a point of using fresh ingredients sourced from local Sichuan producers, renowned for the exceptional quality of their produce. The menu offers a true taste odyssey, where the spicy and fragrant flavours of local cuisine harmonise with the delicate nature of Western culinary techniques. This gastronomic fusion appeals equally to local gourmets seeking new culinary discoveries and international visitors wishing to discover the region’s culinary traditions in a refined setting.

A design focused on energy efficiency

In accordance with the Accor group’s CSR guidelines, the hotel incorporates a range of technologies designed to reduce its carbon footprint. The building structure uses high-performance Low-E thermal glazing combined with an automated in-room energy management system and magnetic levitation chillers. These cutting-edge technologies reduce electricity consumption related to air conditioning and heating, while maintaining an impeccable level of thermal comfort for all building occupants.

Lighting relies entirely on LED technology, while sanitary fittings feature water-saving flow regulators. Daily operations eliminate single-use plastics across accommodation and catering services. Water bottles, bathroom amenities and food packaging have been replaced with sustainable alternatives, reflecting a comprehensive approach to the circular economy and respect for biodiversity.

The choice of magnetic levitation chillers represents a major innovation in the region’s hotel sector. By eliminating mechanical friction and the need for lubricating oil, these compressors not only reduce energy consumption but also significantly lower the noise levels of technical installations, thereby contributing to the overall peace of the establishment and the long-term durability of the equipment.

Accor Group’s targeted expansion in Sichuan

Accor’s long-standing presence in China gives it a privileged position to identify priority growth areas. Sichuan, buoyed by its dynamic demographics and central role in the development project for Western China, benefits from massive investment in transport networks and tourism infrastructure. The arrival of prestigious brands like MGallery contributes to raising the province’s hospitality standards, meeting both the needs of high-end business clientele and the rise of domestic and international leisure tourism.

A strategic expansion for Accor Group

The opening of Financial City Chengdu consolidates the group’s position in Western China, where Accor now holds a portfolio of over 230 operating hotels and 140 projects under development. The region represents a strategic hub for expansion, supported by the growth of economic and tourism infrastructure. This dense regional presence enables the group to offer a diversified hotel portfolio, tailored precisely to the specificities of each local market.

MGallery Collection, which boasts more than 120 addresses across 40 countries, plans to double its network in Greater China by 2030. New openings are already scheduled in several key destinations, including Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Sanya, Pujiang and Lanxi. These future projects reflect the collection’s ambition to enrich its presence in sites of great historical or scenic value, offering a unique narrative each time that is deeply rooted in the culture of its host location.

By targeting premier metropolises alongside emerging destinations, MGallery strengthens its role as a cultural gateway for travellers from around the world. The brand’s development rests on the promise of providing every visitor with a unique experience, guided by constant attention to design, service excellence and the celebration of local heritage, thereby ensuring the collection’s enduring appeal and international renown.
